I’ve mulled over the subject of my first post to Trending Reality for weeks. I wanted it to be clever, cheeky, compelling, relevant and, at the very least, brilliantly set the tone of this blog. Dozens of ideas later and still nothing pressed – a testament to my ability to procrastinate. So, here it is – off the cuff.
California, home of the hippies, Berkeley, vegans, and the new age movement is arguably one of the more health conscious states in the union and yet the people of this State rejected the labeling of GMO. Why? As I’m sure you know, he who controls the media (see: sheep jockey’s, above) controls the sheep (see: sheep, above). In this case, Monsanto and a long list of multi-national food companies obviously have a vested interest in ensuring that GMO’s dominate the market; but my suspicious nature continues to nag at me – who were the unseen sheep handlers?
On any given day during the election you could find numerous articles on both sides of the issue. The excerpt below from a September 3rd article on CBS News quotes Dr. William Davis (cardiologist) who discusses the various effects of GMO poisoning.
“This thing [GMO wheat] has many new features nobody told you about, such as there’s a new protein in this thing called gliadin. It’s not gluten. . . . This thing binds into the opiate receptors in your brain and in most people stimulates appetite, such that we consume 440 more calories per day, 365 days per year“
Wait – Stop the presses – I get it now- its not just about those evil agribusiness and multi-national food companies wanting to increase sales, the loss of GMO’s would cost the diet industry (not to mention the hospital and pharmaceutical industries) billions and cause the loss of thousands of jobs. What would Jenny Craig do? Thankfully, a little over one month later (and right before the election), NPR was kind enough to bust those myths for us so that we could, in good conscience, not only vote for fiscal responsibility at the polls but also continue to vote with our dollars without those pesky labels making us feel bad. GMO’s are truly too big to fail – think they were holding Big Bird hostage?
